AERONOVA, in partnership with the DO buro studio, served as curator of the workshop “Lighter than Air: architecture of experience,” inviting students to explore a vision of the city of the future through the lens of reviving airship typologies and aerostatic architectural structures.
In theoretical lectures, experts introduced students to the history of lighter-than-air flight and discussed the cultural context shaped by the ambitions of scientists, engineers, and architects of the past to overcome gravity.
The practical component of the workshop involved developing projects on one of the proposed topics. The outcome will be several noteworthy projects in aerostatic architecture.
“Together with the students, we are exploring a possible new function of air transport—not only as a way to move people and cargo from point A to point B, but as a means of gaining new experiences and emotions. A way to see the city from above, rise above the hustle and bustle, slow down, and recharge,” — said Fedor Konstantinov, technical director of AERONOVA.
This year, “Open City” is dedicated to exploring the transport environment and its transformations in response to current challenges—new technologies and scientific discoveries, the development of artificial intelligence, climate change, and new ways of living. The focus is on innovative solutions and systems, the renovation of existing infrastructure, and the cultural and sensory aspects of the transport environment.
